ArmInfo. At an extraordinary meeting on July 1, the National Assembly of Armenia by secret ballot failed to elect Anna Margaryan a member of the Supreme Judicial Council.
According to the chairman of the electoral group Vahagn Hovakimyan, 85 out of 132 MPs took part in the voting. After opening the envelopes, the group found out that 66 MPs voted "for" the candidacy of Anna Margaryan, and 19 MPs "against". Meanwhile, according to the constitutional law "On the NA Rules of Procedure", two thirds of the votes of the parliamentarians were necessary for the approval of the candidacy of a member of the SJC.
Thus, as NA Vice Speaker Alen Simonyan stated, Anna Margaryan could not get the necessary number of votes.
