The Georgian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Maya Tskitishvili on June 27 will take part in the meeting of the intergovernmental commission in Yerevan. The press secretary of the Armenian Prime Minister Vladimir Karapetyan said this in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent. "Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Maya Tskitishvili will take part from the Georgian side, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan from the Armenian side," said Karapetyan.
Earlier it was reported that after a long break in Yerevan, the tenth meeting of the Armenian-Georgian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation will be held, and on June 28, an Armenian- Georgian business forum will be held in Dilijan. The corresponding agreement was reached on May 3 of this year. in the course of regular political consultations between the foreign affairs agencies of Armenia and Georgia.
Experts from two sides repeatedly spoke about the need for a meeting. The issue became more acute after September 2018, when the Georgian prime minister during a meeting with his Armenian counterpart made a very ambitious proposal to the Armenian side to bring the trade turnover to a billion dollars (from $ 240.1 million in 2017). "Georgian Prime Minister proposed a very ambitious project. And we fully support it. It contains a concrete proposal to bring the volume of mutual trade turnover to $ 1 billion during the current years. There is a clear agreement to go towards this goal," he said at a joint press on September 10 conference following a meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Mamuk Bakhtadze, head of the Armenian government Nikol Pashinyan.
It should be noted that, according to the Armenian Statistical Committee, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Georgia in 2018 was $ 138.9 million, with an annual decline of 42.4%. At the same time, exports amounted to $ 68.7 million, with an annual decline of 55.1%, imports - $ 70.1 million, a decline of 20.4%.
