ArmInfo.Armenian President Armen Sarkissian sent a letter of condolences to President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiades in connection with the demise of former President of the country Demetris Christofias, the press service of the president informs. The message, in particular, reads: "The contribution of Demetris Christofias to the deepening and strengthening of the Armenian-Cypriot fraternal ties is highly valued in Armenia. Good memory of the friend of the Armenian people will forever remain in our hearts.
Please accept my deepest condolences." To recall, according to the government bureau of the press and information of Cyprus the country's former president Demetris Christofias died on June 21. Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades expressed condolences on his death. Christofias was 72 years old. He was the President of Cyprus in 2008-2013, before that he had headed the Parliament for seven years. For many years Christofias was the leader of the Progressive Party of the Working People of Cyprus (the Cypriot Communist Party). Christofias was hospitalized in Nicosia on May 18, and on May 20 he was transferred to the intensive care unit due to significant problems with the respiratory system. Foreign specialists were invited for treatment.
