ArmInfo. Investigation department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia carries out procedural actions to clarify the circumstances of extortion of a journalist on a large scale.
According to preliminary data, on June 18 the journalist of the "Haikakan Zham" editorial office in the office of the deputy commander of the 1st officer battalion of the Traffic Police reported that he has information that the latter is engaged in business activities and has tax liabilities of about 41,000,000 Armenian drams.
In order not to publish this information, the journalist demanded a large sum of 800.000 drams from the policeman, while hinting that it is possible to bargain on the issue of the amount.
Further, on June 19, at about 4:30 pm, a journalist in the office of the same deputy commander of the battalion of the Democratic Party, according to the "agreement" presented earlier, received with the extortion 400.000 AMD.
However, as a result of the measures taken by the police officers of the RA Police in the same office, they were detained.
During the search, the amount of 400.000 drams received from the deputy commander of the DP battalion was found in the journalist's bag.
A criminal case was initiated in connection with the incident in the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the RA Police under paragraph 3.1 of Part 2 of Article 182 of the RA Criminal Code, which is being preliminary investigated in the Department for Investigating Serious Crimes of the Investigation Department of the City of the RA Investigation Department.
