ArmInfo. On June 14 Ruben Rubinyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly of Armenia for Foreign Relations, received a delegation led by Vice President of the German Bundestag Thomas Oppermann.
According to the press service of the parliament, Ruben Rubinyan highly appreciated the development of cooperation between the parliaments of Armenia and Germany and noted that such mutual visits raise the quality of bilateral parliamentary contacts to a new level. During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.
Discussing the process of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Chairman of the Committee noted that this conflict is not just a territorial dispute, but the fate of people living there, and should be decided in terms of the full realization of human rights. The chairman of the committee stressed that the full involvement of Artsakh in the negotiation process contributes to the effectiveness of the negotiations to resolve the conflict.
In this regard, Rubinyan noted that the key to resolving the Karabakh conflict is in Yerevan, Stepanakert and Baku, and he hopes for the support of European partners in the peaceful resolution of the conflict. The parties also raised issues of confidence-building in the negotiation process. Ruben Rubinyan considers unacceptable the continuing violations on the Line of Contact on the part of Azerbaijan and provocative actions, which periodically lead to human losses, tensions in the situation, and the formation of unfavorable conditions for the negotiation process.
In the context of the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict the Chairman of the Committee also stressed that it is very important at the level of states to exclude policies of militaristic rhetoric, and in practice to eliminate the establishment of red lines, characterizing them as destructive steps towards creating an environment conducive to peace.
At the end of the meeting, the parties also discussed other issues related to further cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.
