ArmInfo. The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland, sent a letter to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, stressing that the Council of Europe highly appreciates the commitment of the head of the Armenian Cabinet to implement judicial reforms.
The letter, in particular, reads: "Dear Mr. Prime Minister! I want to thank you and your government for the warm welcome extended to members of the delegation of the Council of Europe who visited Armenia on May 30 and 31, and for constructive discussions with them.
We share your approach that it is necessary to increase efforts aimed at fighting corruption, to reform and restructure the judicial system in accordance with the Constitution of Armenia and the republic's international obligations.
A quickly and decisively implemented comprehensive and promising strategy for judicial reform will properly implement the legitimate goals of your government. This strategy can be built on three pillars: vigorous efforts to fight corruption, increase the independence and effectiveness of the judiciary, and protect human rights. Reforms can be guided by the relevant structures of the Council of Europe and monitoring mechanisms, in particular, the European Court of Human Rights, the Venice Commission and GRECO- such a strategy will ensure the credibility of transformations, their predictability and continuity, as well as international support.
The Council of Europe is ready to actively participate in the implementation of these reforms within the framework of the action program, which will start in a few days in Yerevan with the participation of the Deputy Secretary General.
With the expectation of long-lasting cooperation, Yours sincerely, Thorbjorn Jagland ".
