ArmInfo. Russia plays an important, significant role in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin announced this on June 11 at a press conference in Yerevan.
According to him, this role is being carried out by Russia both as a strategic partner of Armenia and a long- term partner of Azerbaijan, and as one of the three co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
In this context, he recalled that Russia as an intermediary is making separate efforts to resolve the conflict as soon as possible, a vivid example of which is the last Moscow-initiated meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with colleagues from Armenia and Azerbaijan, Zorhab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar Mammadyarov in April this year, and the last visit of Minsk mediators to the region.
According to him, there are mechanisms for finding a settlement; they are working. "Russia traditionally stands for preventing an escalation of the situation in the region, but we need to understand that the final decision on resolving the conflict lies with its parties," the Russian diplomat said, adding that there should be a balanced approach on this issue, and more expectations should be from the parties than from Russia. "I think that it's not quite right to leave everything in Russia," the mbassador concluded.
