ArmInfo. I hope that one day Armenia will become a full member of the European Union, Nicolas Tenzer, lecturer at the Paris Institute for Political Studies and the National School of Management, author of the French government’s foreign policy reports, stated at the lecture on “Europe 2035: Trends, Risks and Events” held at the French Embassy in Armenia on June 10.
“I’m not sure that today there are the necessary conditions for Armenia’s accession to the EU, however, I have nothing against it. I will be very happy if this happens. However, for this it is necessary to achieve progress on a number of issues, to meet the necessary criteria, ”the French expert noted.
At the same time, he stated that today there are various kinds of integration projects. Tenzer is convinced that in order for the European Union to continue the policy of expansion and start accepting new members it is necessary to make serious reforms. Only after this, according to him, will it become possible.
However, the French expert believes that this process cannot last for 5-10 years, as it can lead to a loss of interest in the structure as a whole. ''We cannot make countries wishing to integrate into European society wait or a long time. The imperative of the day does not allow to wait long, because led by uncertainty, for example, the Balkan countries or Ukraine, which today strain after integrating into our structure, may simply lose interest in the EU, when we are ready to accept them into our ranks, '', Tenzer concluded.
