Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan rejected investigator`s  petition to arrest Investigative Committee former Deputy Chairman  Vahagn Harutyunyan

ArmInfo. The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan, chaired by Judge Anna Matevosyan, rejected the petition of the head of the investigative team on the March 1,  2008 case of Hrach Musheghyan about the arrest of the former Deputy  head of the same investigative team Vahagn Harutyunyan.

The lawyer of Harutyunyan Mihran Poghosyan noted that the body that  is carrying out the investigation will either protest this decision  or find new circumstances for the arrest of his client, as they are  against Vahagn Harutyunyan.

To note, on February 6 the Court of Appeal of Armenia overturned the  decision of the court of first instance on the arrest of Harutyunyan,  sending a complaint to the court of first instance. After that, the  Armenian Prosecutor's Office in connection with this decision of the  court sent a cassation appeal to the Court of Cassation, which,  however, did not consider it.

To recall, Vahagn Harutyunyan is the former deputy head of the  Investigative Committee of Armenia. He is accused of abuse of office,  in particular, in the fraud of documents on the case of March 1,  2008.

To note, as a result of clashes at opposition rallies that followed  the presidential elections in Armenia in 2008, at which Serzh  Sargsyan won de jure, 10 people were killed on March 1. The  investigation of the case is still ongoing. Within the framework of  the case, the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and a  number of high-ranking officials of that time are being charged with  overthrowing the constitutional system.
