ArmInfo. We consider the participation of the military in the processes that do not correspond to their direct duties to be non-milking. The commander of the brigade of the peacekeeping forces of the Armenian Defense Ministry Artak Tonoyan said this on May 29 at a press conference in Yerevan, commenting on the situation when during the velvet revolution a number of peacekeepers of the peacekeeping brigade joined the protests in Yerevan.
According to him, the direct mission of the military is to ensure the protection and security of the motherland, participation in other processes is commendable, and has been criticized by the military community. "We have a negative attitude towards such manifestations. But, the military leadership decided not to subject these persons to responsibility. The question came out of the agenda," Tonoyan concluded.
To recall, on April 23, 2018, about two hundred servicemen left military units and joined the protests in Yerevan. The then Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan informed that in fact a criminal case was initiated involving 209 servicemen. At the same time, he stressed that all those who voluntarily left the places of permanent deployment should be punished in order not to create new precedents. However, after Sargsyan's resignation, all military personnel were dismissed, and the commander of the peacekeeping brigade, who led the rebellion, was promoted.
