ArmInfo. Freedom of thought, conscience, religion, belief, and their expression lies at the center of culture of human rights. The UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp stated this on May 24 on the margins of a regional forum dedicated to contemporary issues of freedom of religion and confession in Armenia, Georgia and the world.
According to him, in order to exclude a frontal type of discrimination, it is necessary to establish an inter- religious dialogue as a factor of peace and mutual understanding in society.
"Today, the Armenian government, more than ever, takes an active part in discussing such issues. It is also important that Armenia and Georgia show a unified approach to discussing these issues," Gevorg Ter- Gabrielyan, Director of the Eurasia Partnership Foundation, noted.
In turn, as noted by the Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan, the modern world, and, in particular, Armenia, should exclude any discriminatory manifestation connected with the right to choose religion and faith.
"The Armenians themselves felt the manifestation of this discrimination at the beginning of the last century, and the cruel consequences in the form of loss of people's lives and property," he recalled. As Tatoyan pointed out, the Ombudsman of Armenia undertakes to do everything possible to achieve cooperation and dialogue in this field.
