ArmInfo. The Hunchakian Social Democrat Party made a statement in connection with the latest processes in Armenia, expressing its commitment to the principles of the revolution, the press service of the party informs.
According to the statement of the party, received by ArmInfo, the recent events in the country once again proved that the representatives of the previous government and forces united around them are trying to destroy the reform process carried out in Armenia after the "velvet revolution". As for the events of March 1, 2008, the forces supporting the former president, accused of overthrowing the constitutional system and committing a number of other crimes, are trying to give the trial a new political connotation, involving the authorities of Artsakh in this process.
After the "velvet revolution," as the authors of the statement say, taking advantage of the fact that many were given freedom, the second Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and his entourage, using financial resources stolen from the people, as well as attracting media representatives who are financed them, tried to portray Kocharyan as a politically persecuted person. And all this while, during his tenure the second president of Armenia, he consistently restricted the freedom of the press and subjected political opponents to political persecution.
As noted in the statement, after the "velvet revolution" and the early parliamentary elections that followed it, the Armenian citizen proved to the whole world that he was the master of his country. Unfortunately, a number of strange decisions and rulings issued by various court instances prove that, in contrast to the executive and legislative authorities of the Republic of Armenia, the judicial system of the country is not able to keep pace with the visions of the new Armenia and fulfil the people's hopes and expectations.
Obviously, without the "cleansing" of the judicial system, and the introduction of a transitional justice system, it will be impossible to carry out fundamental reforms and strengthen people's confidence in the judiciary in the country. The Hunchak Social-Democrat Party expresses its adherence to the principles of the revolution and is ready to support actions aimed at the establishment of a new lawful state.
