ArmInfo. The creation and joint exploitation of communications by the states of the Transcaucasus is the only real opportunity to link the Persian Gulf, the Caspian and the Black Sea, leader of the One Armenia party Artur Ghazinyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"Geography gives Transcaucasia good prospects for becoming a powerful transport hub an alternative to the sea route connecting Asia with Europe. And the only country that has a tangible impact on the region and has the infrastructure capacity to restore the transit potential of our region is Russia," he said. According to Ghazinyan, reaching relevant agreements with Iran will allow Russia to ensure the transportation of goods and energy from the Persian Gulf to Europe. The European Union, according to his estimates, considers the Transcaucasus as the "Southern Energy Corridor" for the transportation of energy resources from Central Asia, the Caspian basin and the Persian Gulf to Europe. Moscow, accordingly, seeks to control all ways of exporting energy resources to Europe.
The politician pays special attention to the establishment of electricity corridors in the region, in particular, the North-South corridor with the participation of Armenia, Iran, Georgia and Russia. According to his forecasts, this project will not only ensure the energy security of its participants, but also create the prerequisites for a dialogue between Russia and Georgia. In turn, Armenia, having an excess of electric power capacities, has all the prospects of a regional hub, through the infrastructure of Iran, which exports electricity to Iraq and Syria.
Ghazinyan is convinced of the need for Moscow to initiate a dialogue between Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan on their common interests for their practical implementation. Since, at the current pace of transformation of the system of international relations, it is very difficult to predict the situation and even more so to predict the position of geopolitical centers in a multiyear context. "It is believed that the development of such regional projects will be possible only in the event of a settlement of the Karabakh conflict. Meanwhile, the settlement of the conflict should not be considered as a precondition, but as a consequence of the development of communication projects. The atmosphere of trust and cooperation in the region is due to the implementation of projects coming from common interests ", he stressed. Otherwise, according to Ghazinyan, there are no prospects for resolving the Karabakh conflict in the foreseeable future.
"The problem of long-term development and the search for common interests in the Transcaucasus is very complex and deep. And today it should be studied and analyzed by think tanks in Moscow, Yerevan, Tbilisi and Baku. It seems that the initial apolitical attitude to this process will allow creating professional, expert and academic methods and tools for its implementation in the future, " Ghazinyan concluded.
