ArmInfo.Isolation of courts in Armenia is an unprecedented case in world practice. Such an opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by lawyer, international legal expert, member of the ECHR board Ara Ghazaryan.
According to the call voiced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan yesterday, citizens from 08:30 in the morning should block the entrances and exits of all courts in the republic. At 12:00, the Prime Minister is expected to make a live statement with an "important statement on the situation in the judicial legal system and the establishment of the people's power in this field."
"In my memory in the history of legal proceedings there were no cases of the isolation of courts or blocking of access to buildings where justice is exercised. And it seems to me that this, in principle, should not happen in our country, a country that is a member of the Council of Europe. And in my opinion, this situation, the very content of the speech by the Prime Minister, is fraught with great risks and dangers, first of all, for us ", he stressed.
According to the expert, what is happening in Armenia is nothing but a gross violation of the most important right guaranteed by the Constitution of the country - the principle of separation of the two branches of power - the executive and the judiciary. Ghazaryan, in this light, fears the unpredictable consequences of such an initiative by the executive branch.
"At the same time, the matter concerns not only the risks for the judicial branch of power. The judicial power has already been exposed to dangers for quite a long period. So far, the situation that has arisen for the courts has led to the disruption of their work. As a result, specific people have suffered: plaintiffs, defendants, arrested. And finally, it is generally incomprehensible to me how the Police should and will behave in such a serious and explosive situation, " Ghazaryan concluded.
