ArmInfo. The position of the Armenian side on the issue of the CSTO Secretary General has remained unchanged. On May 17, in a conversation with journalists, the head of the parliamentary commission on foreign relations Ruben Rubinyan, referring to the statement of the acting head, stated this.
CSTO Secretary General Valeri Semerikov that the appointment of a new Secretary General will be decided on May 22 at a meeting of foreign ministers. "The fact is that a situation has arisen due to which the CSTO Secretary General has ceased to hold this post. But there are no adjustments regarding what should ache after this, given the principle of rotation. According to our position, after the response of the Secretary General from Armenia to this position, a representative of the RA was to be appointed. Negotiations were conducted on this principle and they continue, but I want to assure you that Armenia will not change its position on this issue, "Rubinyan stressed.
To note, the other day CSTO Secretary General Valeri Semerikov said that from January 1, 2020, the post of Secretary General, in the prescribed manner, will be transferred to Belarus. According to him, this issue will be discussed already at the May meeting of the heads of the CSTO MFA. Previously, Yuri Khachaturov held the post of CSTO Secretary General. However, he was charged in the case of March 1, 2008, and the latter was recalled from his post. This position remains vacant throughout the year, the duties of the Secretary General are performed by the Acting Valery Semerikov. The Belarusian side insisted that the position be transferred to it ahead of time on a rotational basis, but Armenia did not agree to this.
