ArmInfo. Armenian Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan left for China to participate in an international conference on artificial intelligence and education.
The visit is made at the invitation of UNESCO and will be held in Beijing. According to the press service of the ministry, ministers of education of various regional states, members of the government of the People's Republic of China, as well as high-ranking officials, leaders of industrial artificial intelligence, and senior representatives of the UN will take part in the conference. The purpose of the conference is to create a platform for the exchange of ideas on the introduction of artificial intelligence in education. Participation in this event will allow presenting scientific research and achievements of Armenia in the international arena and take an active part in discussions on artificial intelligence, research and development aimed at solving modern social problems. At the conference, the Minister will make a report.
It is also expected that during the visit the Minister of Education and Science will meet with the Minister of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Deputy Director-General of UNESCO for Education. To note, the international conference on artificial intelligence and education will be held from May 16 to 18, 2019 in Beijing. UNESCO, together with the Government of the People's Republic of China, is organizing an International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Education to study the latest AI technologies and innovative practices in the use of AI in education. More than 500 people are expected to attend, including high-level representatives of all participating States, representatives of UN agencies and bodies, representatives of international organizations, AI industry leaders, academic experts, policy makers and practitioners. On May 18, within the framework of the Conference, half a day will be allocated for visits to local institutions and leading organizations of the AI sector. To maximize the benefits of AI and reduce potential risks to the education sector, system-wide planning and collective action is needed to rethink the fundamentals of education and training. The purpose of the conference is to provide Member States, international organizations, civil society and AI industry companies with a platform to discuss fundamental issues regarding the development of collective man-machine intelligence so that people and AI can coexist and work together. There will also be an exchange of information on the latest trends in the field of AI and how these trends affect education and training. An assessment will be made of lessons learned from national policies and strategies for using AI to achieve sustainable development.
