Such data was obtained based on the results of the annual "Rainbow Europe" ranking, which reflects the situation with the protection of the rights of the LGBT community on the continent, thus Armenia ranked 47th among 49 countries. The human rights group ILGA-Europe makes the ranking.
It is noted that in the ranking of the country can range from 0% (gross violations of human rights and discrimination) to 100% (respect for human rights, completely equal rights for minorities in society).
Thus, the LGBT rights protection rating was headed by Malta with a score of 90.35%, Belgium is in second place (73.08%), Luxembourg is in third place (70.40%), then Finland (69.27%) and closes the top five are Denmark (67.86%).
The most "unfriendly" European countries rating compilers called Azerbaijan (3.33%), Turkey (5.16%), Armenia (6.4%) and Russia (10.20%).
It is noteworthy that Georgia was on the 24th place of the rating (30.26%), and Ukraine on the 35th position (21.52%).
To compile the ranking, human rights defenders study a number of indicators in each country, in particular - equality and non-discrimination, legal recognition of gender change, combating hate crimes, freedom of expression, and the like.
To recall, the first in the history of transgender Lilit Martirosyan speech in the Armenian parliament caused a wide negative public outcry. Later, a protest action was held near the building of the National Assembly of Armenia. The protesters, including politicians, activists, clergy, offered to consecrate the meeting hall of the National Assembly in order to "clear it from transgender".
A number of international organizations immediately made statements, expressing concern over the hateful rhetoric addressed to the LGBT community in Armenia.
In addition, a number of Armenian public organizations and human rights defenders called on the government of the republic to accept and acknowledge the existence of the LGBT community in Armenia, and also declared a biased attitude towards the LGBT community that has developed in the country's prisons.
