ArmInfo.A pilot colon cancer screening program will be implemented in Armenia in 2020. The Minister of Health of Armenia Arsen Torosyan stated this on May 13 at a meeting with journalists.According to him, the prevention of colon cancer is very important because it is detected too late. "The tumor is enlarged, enlarged and detected only when the passage of the intestine is closed, and it is already late. We must detect cancer in the initial stages," said the minister. As Torosyan pointed out, oncology is one of the three main activities of the ministry.
So, according to the minister, many factors affect cancer, including the environment. "One of the most important factors of cancer is air pollution in general. Unfortunately, air pollution today is killing many more people than cigarettes," said Arsen Torosyan.Today, the Ministry of Health of Armenia, as the head of the department reported, is authorized to conduct research in the field of the mining industry, in particular, examines the state of health of citizens living in the area where this type of activity is developing. The studies are conducted in great detail, since, as Torosyan stressed, the department must be sure of the validity of the data, so that in future "another department in the health sector would not be able to refute the findings of the Armenian Ministry of Health".Later, on the basis of the obtained data, drawing conclusions, the Ministry of Health will come up with recommendations and advice to the government in the direction of suspending, closing or permitting the activities of the "miners". At present, as stated by Arsen Torosyan, the Ministry of Health is investigating the influence of the environment on the state of health of Alaverdi residents. The study will not last a day or two, but, as the minister pointed out, they will be as reasonable as possible
