ArmInfo. The merging of business and authorities is a chronic disease of Armenian politics. Deputy Chairman of the Armenian National Congress Party Levon Zurabyan was expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
In this regard, the politician recalled that the issue of merging authorities and business was raised by the ANC during a dialogue between the Congress and the Armenian authorities back in 2011, when the party delegation presented the delegation from the authorities an extensive document entitled "Justification of the need for holding early elections in Armenia". https://www.lragir.am/2011/08/09/51579/. In one of the chapters of this reference, the catastrophic situation in this area was described in detail.
"As an example, we cited the composition of the parliament and indicated the names of 76" people's deputies "from 131 of their total number, who were also businessmen at the same time. We described in detail in the certificate their property and businesses, pointing out the incompatibility of such activities with being in parliament, " said the deputy chairman of the ANC.
The politician recalled that the Constitution gives a very clear definition of the impossibility of combining activities in parliament and business. According to him, the ANC is an opponent of the merging of business with politics, assessing this phenomenon as a violation of fundamental democratic principles. In this regard, Zurabyan stressed that politicians should serve the general interests of the state, and not narrow, group interests of business.
When asked about the possibility of depriving Garik Tsarukyan of the MP's mandate, Zurabyan replied: "Naturally, to improve the political system of Armenia, it is necessary to get rid of the disease and get rid of it as soon as possible. At the same time, I'm not sure that the only causative agent of the disease in the government system remains Gagik Tsarukyan. Accordingly, in this direction it is necessary to conduct a serious study, following the example of a study that was carried out by our party in 2011, "he stressed.
The question of the presence of business in the National Assembly of Armenia has once again become the focus of public attention through the efforts of the "Citizen's Decision" party. On April 29, Secretary of the party's executive body Suren Sahakyan sent a statement to Armenian Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan about the need to initiate criminal proceedings against Prosperous Armenia Party leader, MP Gagik Tsarukyan. The reason for the statement was the suspicion of illegal entrepreneurial activity by the MP Tsarukyan. Sahakyan also sent a statement to RA NA President Ararat Mirzoyan with a request to take appropriate actions pursuant to Article 157 of the "National Assembly Rules of Procedure" law, in particular, to appeal to the Armenian Constitutional Court on the termination of powers of the deputy in case of violation of Article 95 of the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.
