ArmInfo.Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, on May 8 during an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Elders, removed from the agenda the issue of raising salaries for the mayor's office workers.
As Marutyan noted, the issue was withdrawn due to the lack of consensus on this project. The mayor stressed that he is a fairly wealthy man and took the post of mayor solely for the sake of his commitment to the revolution.
The mayor noted that he had previously made a decision to raise the salaries of all 1.700 employees of the Municipality, except himself, however, he was not able to realize this decision because of the staffing schedule. "According to this scale, all salaries are formed taking into account the size of the mayor's salary. After that, the decision was made to raise the salary of the mayor, and the difference I would receive was to send to charity," Marutyan stressed.
To note, as a result of the optimization, it was planned to increase the salaries of 1.700 employees of the Yerevan Municipality by almost 30%. The salary of Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan should have increased from 575.000 drams to 1.2 million drams. In this case, in fact, the salary of the mayor would be equal to the salary of the Prime Minister of Armenia.
