ArmInfo. Democratic processes have become irreversible in Artsakh, and it is already impossible to stop these processes aimed at creating a developed civil society. Democratization is firmly rooted both in the public consciousness of the Artsakh people and in the political institutions of Artsakh. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Artsakh Republic Masis Mailyan expressed similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"In this light, the upcoming sixth presidential elections in Artsakh Republic in 2020 will be another step towards increasing transparency, competitiveness and democracy. We expect the elections to be characterized by active struggle of ideas. The authorities and the society are making consistent efforts to ensure the processes took place at a high organizational level and provided free will of the population. In turn, the Artsakh Foreign Ministry will try, as in previous years, to create optimal conditions for the work of international observers and foreign media, "he said.
Noting the democratic elections as the pivotal institution of the manifestation of the political role of the people as a source of power, Mailyan noted that his department is counting on the support of the international community in this matter. "We hope for the objectivity of influential international organizations and centers of power, that they will refrain from statements about non-recognition of elections. Human rights are in no way conditioned by whether a person lives in a recognized, partially recognized or unrecognized country," the minister said.
At the same time, according to his estimates, international recognition of Artsakh is not an end in itself, but a means of ensuring the right of Artsakh people to a peaceful and safe life, to development, as well as to strengthening political stability in the South Caucasus. International recognition of the republic will also ensure the irreversibility of the peace process, giving impetus to negotiations towards a final resolution of the conflict. Mailyan is convinced that it was precisely the success of Artsakh in state-building, the strengthening of democratic institutions, the solution of economic and social tasks that opened up new opportunities for the process of its international recognition. "Our country has successfully passed the test of time, demonstrating its viability as a state that is implementing a responsible foreign policy towards peace and security in the region. And now our efforts will be aimed at giving positive tendencies that have developed in recent years to a new process of international recognition of Artsakh to a logical conclusion ", the Artsakh Foreign Minister summed up
