ArmInfo. At a meeting on May 7, the RA National Assembly refused to include in the big agenda the draft amendment to the Animal Kingdom law, developed by Prosperous Armenia faction deputy Tigran Urikhanyan.
38 deputies voted for inclusion of the issue on the agenda, with 65 "against" and 4 - "abstentions".According to Tigran Urikhanyan, the bill is humanistic in nature, it is aimed at toughening up the responsibility forbullying pets, including stray dogs, and for their extermination with weapons. According to the deputy, tens of millions of drams were sent to solve the problem of stray dogs, and instead of building special kennels for them, they were simply shot.
Recently, many have witnessed the facts of animal abuse, which were filmed on video cameras and distributed through social networks. However, according to Varazdat Karapetyan, chairman of the standing committee of the National Assembly of Armenia on territorial administration, local self-government, agriculture and environmental protection, the draft law submitted by the deputy is in no way connected with the current legal act, according to which the Animal Law applies exclusively to wild animals. At present, continued Varazdat Karapetyan, a working group has been formed, which is developing a new law that will concern domestic and stray animals. He called on Tigran Urikhanyan to join the working group in order to develop a full-fledged document, which is expected to be ready within the next month.
