On May 6, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a meeting with a delegation led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent.According to the press service of the prime minister, Kent in turn assured that he was glad to be in Armenia again, this time after the parliamentary elections and discuss the cooperation agenda with the Armenian side.
According to him, the US is interested in the development of relations with Armenia and cooperation in the priority areas for the Armenian side.At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed issues related to the deepening of the partnership. In this regard, as an important institutional direction, Pashinyan pointed to the reform of the judicial system and the fight against corruption, as well as the interaction of electoral and police spheres. According to the Armenian Prime Minister, free and democratic elections were held in Armenia, which should be guaranteed from an institutional point of view, and the implementation of reforms in this regard is of great importance.
Touching on the development of economic contacts, the head of the executive body considered promising cooperation with the United States in such areas as the construction of reservoirs, infrastructure, technology and the environment.In this regard, Kent assured that the United States welcomes Armenia's steps towards democratic development, economic progress, and is ready to assist the Armenian side in implementing reforms in various directions.The interlocutors also exchanged views on the settlement of the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict, as well as topical regional issues.In conclusion, Pashinyan wished success to the meeting of the intergovernmental commission on the Armenian-American strategic dialogue.
