ArmInfo. In Yerevan, dozens of taxi drivers took to the streets on the morning of May 3, blocking the intersection of Koryun and Abovyan streets with cars. Participants in the protest action are demanding that the authorities establish parking signs for taxis on this site and cancel parking fines in this area.
Head of the traffic police Yegor Karapetyan came out to the protesters, urging taxi drivers to open the traffic and expressed readiness to consider the claims of those gathered.
After the taxi drivers explained that they were officially granted permission to park on this territory, but they still received fines for parking, Karapetyan said he would send a request to the Yerevan Mayor's Office to consider the question of legalizing parking places directly for taxi drivers, noting that if confirmed, the Traffic Police will be able to resolve this issue tomorrow.
However, unrest among taxi drivers did not stop, and they demanded guarantees from Karapetyan to cancel previous fines, for which the head of the Traffic Police called on protesters for restraint and respect, explaining that to do this is its necessary to consider each specific case and act, urging the strikers to immediately remove cars from intersection.
Karapetyan advised drivers not to stop cars on this site today, before the issue is resolved, saying that he is waiting for taxi drivers in his office, after which the drivers opened the road.
