ArmInfo. The Prosecutor General of Armenia Artur Davtyan told reporters that he did not agree with the arguments that there are political prisoners in the country, as well as the fact that political persecution is carried out against individuals.
"This is not the case. Everyone is charged because of the commission of specific unlawful actions by them," he said. When asked why, under the new authorities, the trial of the March 1 case began to move faster, Davtyan said that all those who had previously been silent began to testify, citizens became more willing to cooperate with the investigation.
Speaking about the trial on March 1, Davtyan called it unprecedented, given that all 3 presidents of the country will take part in it. "Of course, the presidents will participate in the process in different statuses. Also, many high-ranking officials, former and current, will take part in the court. Part of the meetings will be closed, but most will be open," the prosecutor stressed.
To note, the preliminary investigation on the case of March 1, 2008 was completed, the case was sent to the court. According to him, the second president, Robert Kocharyan, the former defense minister Seyran Ohanyan, the ex-secretary general of the CSTO, Yuri Khachaturov, and also the ex-premier Armen Gevorgyan, are accused. Three of them are accused of overthrowing the constitutional system, Armen Gevorgyan in helping to overthrow the constitutional system. In addition, Robert Kocharyan and Armen Gevorgyan are accused of bribery on a particularly large scale. All of them do not admit their guilt. Robert Kocharyan and Seyran Ohanyan have already stated that they are being politically persecuted.
