ArmInfo. A number of students in Armenian universities will be eligible for full or partial reimbursement of tuition fees in the 2019-2020 school year. The decision was taken at the April 25 meeting of the RA government.
Presenting the draft decision, Armenian Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan stressed that the selection of students was carried out in accordance with the directions they chose, which are considered priority for the republic's economy. That is, state compensation will be received by those future personnel that are necessary for the country's economy. In particular, priority is given to future specialists in, for example, areas such as high technology, agriculture, etc.
"The goal is to support the process of training professional personnel necessary for the Armenian economy," the minister stressed. Thus, in the 2019-2020 school year, 2600 bachelors, 1300 masters and 140 graduate students will receive partial or full compensation for their studies. This is about 15% of the total number of students in the higher education system of Armenia. Harutyunyan also suggested that, in the future, the departments themselves should analyze and count the number of necessary personnel, submit a report to the government and apply to the country's universities.
In turn, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan pointed out the importance of introducing a new system for the selection of applicants through their certification. "Those who receive a certificate will receive the right to study in a higher educational institution of the country in the chosen specialty. Thus, not the universities themselves, but future students will be financed," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
