ArmInfo. President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian signed the law "On Alteration and Amendments to the RA Constitutional Law on the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly", the press service of the president reports.
To note, that this sensational law was first challenged in the Constitutional Court. However, the other day, the CCconsidered it constitutional. This law was introduced to the National Assembly in October 2018, when the new authorities of Armenia tried to dissolve the parliament and call new elections. MPs from the Republican Party, "Prosperous Armenia" and ARF <Dashnaktsutyun>, trying to prevent it, developed this bill, which provides not for the dissolution of parliament in the case of various emergencies, but only a temporary suspension of its activities. Seeing in this initiative a threat to their plans, the new authorities headed by Nikol Pashinyan and their associates surrounded the National Assembly, demanding that the MPs of these three forces abandon this legislative initiative. At night, the MPs from the three parties were forced to stay in the NA building, and Nikol Pashinyan signed orders to dismiss the ministers and governors from the PAP and ARFD right on the street. As a result, the law was not signed by President Armen Sarkissian, who sent it to the Constitutional Court to review its constitutionality. Against this background, the parliament was dissolved and new elections were called.
Nevertheless, the other day, the Constitutional Court recognized the law initiated by the RPA and the law passed by the three parties, and today Armen Sarkissian signed it.
