ArmInfo.If we call ourselves a democratic society, the authorities of Artsakh must ensure the possibility of my participation in the presidential elections. The  ex-Minister of Defense of Artsakh Samvel Babayan stated this during a  press conference.

To note, the elections in Artsakh are scheduled for 2020.  "At least,  give us an opportunity to lose, despite the confidence of the current  authorities in their victory, then why they "put two legs in one  boot," Babayan complained, assuring that the country's leadership is  trying to prevent him from participating in the presidential rut  because he sees him as a potential rival .  <I have scheduled a  number of meetings with the Artsakh public to get familiar with the  mood of the people. I want to understand how acceptable my nomination  for the presidential election is for them. After that, the process of  collecting signatures will take place and we will announce our  decision whether we are participating or not, "he added, noting that  at this stage it's not practical to talk about real opponents in the  upcoming elections, because much can change in a year.

Speaking about the situation of restoring his citizenship, Babayan  said that he plans to resolve these issues according to law. "The law  should be equal for everyone," he said, recalling that Artsakh  President Bako Sahakyan, who had come from Moscow, headed the  republic in 2007.  In conclusion, Babayan promised that he would  complete all stages of the procedure for the nomination to the  presidential post within the framework of the Artsakh Constitution.

To note, at present Babayan has a problem with the qualification to  stay in Artsakh for the last 10 years, which is necessary for the  nomination at the presidential election. However, the Constitution of  Artsakh makes it possible in such cases to be put forward in case of  collecting 30 thousand votes. And Babayan announced his intention to  take advantage of this opportunity.
