ArmInfo. Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the UN, Mher Margaryan, on the eve of his visit to the UN Security Council meeting entitled "UN peacekeeping operations. Women in peacekeeping."
Under the chairmanship of Minister of Defense of Germany, Ursula von der Leyen, delegations from 70 UN member states participated in the meeting, during which UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres presented a report.
The UN Secretary-General touched upon the increased involvement of women in peacekeeping operations and an increase in the registered achievements in this direction.
In his speech, the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, Mher Margaryan noted that the Government of Armenia attaches particular importance to promoting the involvement of women in all spheres of public life.
To note, the expansion of women's involvement in peacekeeping operations is one of the priorities of the reforms implemented by the Armenian armed forces. Margaryan also presented the steps taken by Armenia to increase the number of women peacekeepers in Armenian military units participating in international peacekeeping operations.
Referring to Security Council adopted resolution (S/RES/1325) on women and peace and security adopted in 2000, Margaryan mentioned a national action program aimed at implementing the provisions of the resolution, which was adopted by the Armenian government in February 2019.
The Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN noted the importance of the participation of public organizations and the involvement of initiatives led by women in processes aimed at resolving conflicts and establishing peace.
