ArmInfo. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accused French President Emmanuel Macron of grossly violating international law.
So, responding to the decree signed on the eve of Macron, which proclaimed April 24 in France as the National Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Armenian Genocide, Cavusoglu assured that the decision of the French President contradicts the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and the French Constitutional Council. "Macron is again engaged in populism, trying to fulfill the promises made to Armenians during the election campaign. I suggest Macron to turn to the dark past of France. 25 years have passed since the Rwanda genocide," wrote Cavusoglu in his Twitter microblog.
According to him, the decision of the President of France on the events of 1915 means nothing to Turkey. Moreover, Cavusoglu promised that Ankara will take the necessary steps on this issue. French President Emmanuel Macron signed a decree on April 10, which proclaims April 24 the national Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Armenian Genocide. Thus, Macron fulfilled his promise to this Armenian community of France in February of this year, during a speech at the annual council of Armenian organizations.
