ArmInfo.Armenia attaches importance to cooperation with the UN in the implementation of various programs. The Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, Arayik Harutyunyan, said this yesterday at the meeting with Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Armenia Dmitry Mariyasin.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, during the meeting the Armenian minister, in particular, pointed to the implementation of the programs of the World Food Program and UNICEF. Highly appreciating the readiness of UNDP to actively assist Armenia in reforming the educational system, Arayik Harutyunyan stressed that the new authorities attach great importance to teaching a social-science subject, in particular, from the point of view of civil education.
"Civil education has traditionally been weak in Armenia, despite the fact that it is an important guarantee of the country's security," Arayik Harutyunyan said, expressing confidence that cooperation in this direction will have serious results. In the field of civic education, the Minister of Education and Science highlighted the process of teacher training.
Presenting the main directions of reforms in the education system, Arayik Harutyunyan stressed that in the coming years serious progress will be achieved at all levels of education in the field of general, vocational and higher education.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, UNDP Resident Representative Dmitry Mariyasin expressed readiness to provide practical assistance to the Armenian education system. Representing areas of cooperation he pointed to programs for the implementation of environmental education, information technology, and skills in rural communities.
To note, one of the main sponsors of the UN Development Programs in Armenia is the Russian Federation. At the end of January of this year, speaking at the seminar "On the activities of the Russian Federation in the field of international development assistance," Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin noted that with financial support from Russia, Armenia is implementing various projects in the fields of health, education, environmental protection , combating natural disasters, combating infectious and non-communicable diseases, and combating poverty, "Karasin said. Within the framework of Russia's interaction with UNDP in Armenia a number of projects are being implemented, including in support of rural development. $ 5 million has been allocated for this. Another $ 3 million has been allocated for the development of tourism.
UNAIDS is working on the prevention and control of HIV and AIDS. The project allocated $ 16 million. More than $ 20 million is the overall budget of the UNDP program for sustainable development related to school meals. "Since 2016, $ 60,000 has been allocated to the budget of the UNICEF children's fund for the development of neonatal services. Projects are successfully being implemented in the field of UNIDO, FAO ", noted Karasin.
