ArmInfo.The Armenian Foreign Ministry issued a statement in connection with the 27th anniversary of the pogroms in the village of Maraga.According to the statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, received by ArmInfo, today marks 27 years from the date of the crime against the population of the village of Maraga.
"The Azerbaijani army, which gained control over the village for several hours, turned it into a slaughterhouse, cruelly torturing and killing more than 50 civilians, and even captivating women, children, the elderly and disabled. After two weeks, the Azerbaijani army regained control of the village, this time destroying it to the ground. To this day, Maraga is under the occupation of Azerbaijani troops, and many of the captives then are considered to be missing, "the Armenian Foreign Ministry stressed.
In Yerevan, it was recalled that the facts about the mass extermination of the inhabitants of the village of Maraga were confirmed by various international organizations dealing with human rights, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.In addition, according to the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the report of the Physicians for Human Rights organization, which conducted work with prisoners during the conflict, clearly stated that from 1990-1996, with the participation of the Azerbaijani authorities and civilians, respect of children and old Armenians by nationality.
"In addition to the Armenian pogroms of Sumgayit, Kirovabad and Baku, the crimes against the inhabitants of the village of Maraga were committed by the troops of independent Azerbaijan in Artsakh, and the commander of the Tagiyev detachment Shagin Taliboglu who organized this massacre became the first national hero of Azerbaijan. Coordinated mass crimes committed against the peaceful Artsakh's population, their impunity and glorification became part of the consistent policy of Azerbaijan and received new manifestations 24 years after the events in Marag, in April Azerbaijan's aggression against Artsakh. Today we pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the Maragh massacre, while at the same time reaffirming our determination to prevent the recurrence of such massacres and guarantee the security and protection of the people of Artsakh in their homeland, "the Armenian Foreign Ministry stressed.
