ArmInfo. Based on the information received from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, the Yerevan Municipality and the State Property Management Committee, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia studied the circumstances of the demolition of the building at Arami st. 9, which is under state protection.
During the inspection, it turned out that in 2004 the building at Arami st. 9, which is a monument of republican significance and included in the list of immovable historical and cultural monuments of the city of Yerevan, was demolished by demolition permits issued by officials of the Yerevan Municipality.
Meanwhile, according to the law of the Republic of Armenia <On the Protection and Use of Immovable Monuments of History and Culture and the Historical Environment> the demolition of monuments of republican significance is prohibited.
Taking into account the fact that the recorded violations contain signs of a crime of abuse of authority, which entailed grave consequences, a criminal case has been initiated in the Office for the Protection of State Interests of the Prosecutor General's Office on grounds of part 2 of Art. 308 of the RA Criminal Code.
The investigation was entrusted to the Investigation Committee of Armenia.
To note, in 2004 mayor of Yerevan was Yervand Zakharyan, and minister of culture was Hovik Hoveyan.
