ArmInfo.Judicial and legal reforms are one of the indicators of the protection of human rights in the country. Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan said this on April 5 during parliamentary hearings initiated by the standing parliamentary commission for the protection of human rights.
He noted that there are a number of areas in the field of human rights that need to be addressed. "In particular, we are talking about people with disabilities. It is very important that people with disabilities were not isolated from society. Also, a special place in our work is in the field of protecting the rights of women and children," Tatoyan said.
According to the Ombudsman, a very positive fact is that recently the Defender of Human Rights has become more closely and actively cooperating with parliamentary commissions. "It seems to me that this cooperation will positively affect the field of human rights protection. In addition, we cooperate with various ministries. The cooperation is most closely developed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice," the Human Rights Defender emphasized. In turn, the head of the Human Rights Commission Naira Zohrabyan stated that a number of reforms are necessary in the field of human rights in Armenia. "We must break all taboos and stereotypes and direct all efforts to ensure that human rights in Armenia are truly protected. Parliament cannot exercise control over the executive branch, especially in such matters. Our activities in the field of human rights protection are not limited exclusively to the legislative in the sphere, we also need to establish control over the executive power ", said the MP.
