ArmInfo.A photo exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the start of the Second World War will be opened in Yerevan. Ambassador of Poland to Armenia Pavel Ceplak informed about this in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent.
"Within the events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the beginning of World War II, we are planning to open a photo exhibition on the square in front of the Moscow Cinema in Yerevan. The event will be organized in September," the diplomat said, not specifying the exact date.
The ambassador noted that his government has already sent an official invitation to the Armenian diplomatic mission in Warsaw to the country's leadership to take part in events to start the war.
Memorial events will begin on September 1 - the day when Nazi Germany attacked Poland, mobilizing for this two large army groups of 53 divisions. At 4:30 am on September 1, 1939, the German Air Force delivered a massive attack on Polish airfields, while the German Army crossed the border of Poland. On September 17, the Soviet contingent entered the territory of Poland without declaring war. Fighting with the Wehrmacht for Warsaw continued until September 28, after which Poland signed the act of surrender. The territory of Poland was mainly divided between Germany and the USSR, some parts were transferred to Slovakia and Lithuania.
To note, earlier, the press service of the Polish government said that Poland sent an invitation to Armenia to take part in events to mark the start of the war. The executive also informed that invitations were sent only to- EU, NATO and Eastern Partnership members. The list includes Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Moldova. The Polish government also stressed that the states that are not part of these three organizations will not be invited. The Russian leadership was not invited to commemorative events in Poland, since, as the Polish media write, they will be held not in a historical, but in a modern format. This format includes the Eastern Partnership countries, where Russia is not included. Japan has not received an invitation.
