ArmInfo. The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia summarized the results of the struggle against crimes in 2018 related to corruption, comparing them with the figures for 2017.
According to the press service of the RA Prosecutor General's Office, last year 1988 cases of corruption were prepared, which is almost four times higher than in 2017, when only 500 cases were prepared. 1569 criminal cases were initiated, which is 3.6 -fold (403) higher than the previous year. To note, in 2018 law enforcement agencies opened criminal cases on the basis of information provided by 988 individuals and legal entities, which is almost 3.6 -fold more than in 2017 (272), media publications - 25 against 8 in 2017 . It is also noteworthy that last year there were 532 circumstances revealed by the investigating authorities, investigators, prosecutors and judges, which is 4.3 -fold more than in 2017 (123).
These indicators point to an unprecedented high level of public initiatives to solve corruption crimes, deeper consequences of public perception of intolerance to corruption and high activity of law enforcement agencies in the fight against corruption.
During the reporting period, out of 2072 criminal cases, the investigation was completed in respect of 749 cases, 151 cases with the presentation of the indictment were transferred to the courts (148 cases in 2017).
During 2018 in criminal cases initiated by the preliminary investigation bodies of the Republic of Armenia, criminal prosecution was carried out against 960 persons prosecuted for corruption crimes, which is more than 60% more than in 2017. Moreover, if in 2017, out of the number of persons prosecuted, 292 were officials or government employees, in 2018 this figure reached 470, which is 61% more.
