ArmInfo. At the next plenary meeting on March 6, the National Assembly of Armenia, in its first reading, amended the law on education.Presenting the draft amendments on the eve, MP Tigran Urikhanyan from the Prosperous Armenia faction noted that the draft law was aimed at creating conditions for accessibility of the education system.
It is about presenting an opportunity for Armenian university students studying on a fee basis to pay for their education on a monthly basis. The deputy stressed that even within the walls of parliament there are deputies who, due to the lack of necessary financial resources, were forced to leave school.
As of today, over 400 applications have already been received regarding this issue. "It would seem that the problem is purely mechanical, but it solves a number of issues, including social ones," Tigran Urikhanyan stressed. Earlier, the RA government gave a positive opinion on the submitted document. Then, at the cabinet meeting, the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Araik Harutyunyan reminded that the draft document last year received a positive assessment of the executive body. However, due to the lack of a quorum in the parliament, I could not get the necessary number of votes. However, the government and this time issued a positive opinion, and the document in the prescribed manner was sent to the National Assembly of the country.
As the minister noted, the country's universities have still not encountered problems associated with monthly tuition fees, however, the submitted document will become imperative. Previously, students made payments either quarterly or for the entire academic year. Now they will have an alternative. The minister also reported that negotiations are being completed with the Central Bank of the country for the introduction of a new program on preferential student loans. According to him, priority in this program will be given in a number of popular disciplines. It should be noted that at present, seven commercial banks in Armenia are providing study loans for studying in higher educational institutions of the country.
