Armenian police chief: Amnesty is one of the main reasons for rising  crime in the country

ArmInfo. We held our meeting  with the head of the Armenian police, as we were greatly disturbed by  the fact that recently there has been an increase in crime in the  country. About this February 28 in an interview with reporters said  the head of the faction "Mystep "Lilith Makunts."

We were all worried about the cause of the increase in crime. We also  asked what could have contributed to this and what steps our law  enforcement agencies are taking to stabilize the situation," said the  head of the faction.Makuntz noted that in the conversation the police  chief presented to the members of the bloc the reasons for the  situation. "One of the reasons is connected with the amnesty. And the  other is due to the fact that the number of people who file  complaints with the police has increased," said the deputy.The head  of the My Step faction also stated that Osipyan assured the members  of the bloc that the situation was under the control of the police  and the necessary steps were being taken to stabilize the situation. 

"In particular, it was found that the most favorable for criminals  are places with poor, poor lighting, as well as those high-rise  buildings where there are no surveillance cameras. Thus, we will  solve several problems at once. The country's lighting system will be  improved, and multi-storey houses will be installed video cameras.  This is a hello to a certain reduction in the growth of crime, "the  deputy assured.The deputy also noted that the issue of low wages in  the police system was discussed.In turn, Valery Osipyan also did not  deny that in recent times there has been an increase in crime in the  country. "Yes, this is certainly the case, and certainly this is a  problem, but do not worry, everything is under our control," Osipyan  assured.The chief of police said that the majority of crimes today  constitute theft. "But at the same time, we have achieved success in  the fight against corruption, and there are also achievements in  preventing crimes against the person and minors," he stressed.

Osipyan noted that amnesty is certainly one of the reasons for the  increase in crime, although, according to him, all crimes should not  be linked to it. "It turns out that 58 people committed a total of  104 crimes out of those released under the amnesty. Many of them were  arrested again," said the head of the Armenian police.Also, the  police chief said that after the revolution, citizens began to turn  to the police more often.  "If earlier some crimes were silenced, now  they are being spoken about openly. So in the second half of 2018,  807 citizens turned to the police more than in the same period of  2017," Osipyan concluded.Note that after the declaration of amnesty  in the country increased crime. In particular, apartment thefts  became frequent.Recall that last year an amnesty was declared,  according to which many prisoners were released.
