ArmInfo.President of the Armenian parliament, Ararat Mirzoyan, while in Moscow on a working visit, noted with regret the participation of some of his Russian counterparts in the anti-Armenian actions held yesterday in the capital of Azerbaijan.
Speaking at a plenary meeting of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Mirzoyan, in particular, said: "Dear friends, I have to state with regret that, despite the high level and allied cooperation between our countries, as well as the consistent efforts of the Russian side, of the Karabakh conflict, some of our Russian counterparts just yesterday became participants in a pronounced anti-Armenian rally held in Baku and aimed at undermining sustainable peace and stability in the region>.
Moreover, he stressed, the participation of the members of the Russian-Armenian inter-parliamentary commission in the event is just bewildering. All this, according to Mirzoyan, is becoming even more relevant, especially these days, when Armenians around the world commemorate the victims of the ominous Sumgait pogroms that took place more than thirty years ago and became the forerunner of pogroms against Armenians, initiating a policy of full-scale ethnic cleansing. This led to a mass exodus of the Armenian population from Baku, Sumgayit, Kirovabad and other cities of Azerbaijan, the head of the Armenian parliament stressed.
