ArmInfo.The Armenian National Congress welcomes the initiative of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to hold a march on the day of the tragic events of March 1, 2008. This is stated in the statement of the ANC, received by ArmInfo.
The ANC considers this initiative as a step aimed at restoring justice at the state level. "We are confident that with this initiative, the authorities will start a fair investigation of all cases in which human rights were infringed. This also means that all organizers and perpetrators of crimes on March 1 will be held accountable, compensation will be provided to the heirs of the victims of these events, a memorial to the victims of the March 1 tragedy, adjacent to the Myasnikyan monument, will be established, and March 1 will be recognized as a day of struggle against repression and a terrorist act at the state level, "the statement reads.
Understanding the importance of this initiative, the ANC encourages everyone to take part in the march.
To note, on February 21 Nikol Pashinyan announced that on March 1, at 6:30pm, a procession dedicated to the events of March 1, 2008 will take place from Freedom Square in Yerevan. To recall, on March 1, 2008, the Armenian police used force against citizens conducting a peaceful rally on Freedom Square in Yerevan in protest against the rigged presidential elections. Rallies lasted about 10 days. As a result of the use of force by the police 10 people were killed. The names of the killers to this day have not been disclosed.
