On February 13, a group of deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia met with EU special ambassadors for the Eastern Partnership countries.According to the press service of the legislative body, the Special Envoy for the Eastern Partnership of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Thomas Buchsbaum noted that the purpose of their visit is to get acquainted with the reform program in Armenia. He welcomed the ongoing democratic reforms in Armenia and noted that they are ready to support their implementation.
The parties discussed issues related to the situation after the change of power in our country, the vision of the economic revolution, the problems of developing democracy, the involvement of civil society in the reform process, the anti-corruption strategy and Armenia-EU cooperation.Armenian parliamentarians assured that partnership with the EU is of great importance for Armenia. The importance of the speedy ratification of the Comprehensive and Enlarged Partnership Agreement by the EU Member States in the context of the development of relations between Armenia and the EU and the effective implementation of reforms was stressed. Within the framework of the agreement, the deputies noted the importance of progress in the process of simplifying the visa regime in the EU. In terms of a favorable implementation of the document, the need for expert advice and financial assistance was noted.
The parties also touched upon the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the integration directions of Armenia, the transitional justice, the values established in the framework of the Eastern Partnership and a number of other issues.
