ArmInfo. The issue of reforming the Electoral Code is not on the agenda of the Armenian government. On February 13, responding to the question of the MP from the My Step bloc Vahagn Hovakimyan in the parliament, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
According to him, the initiative to reform the Electoral Code should belong to members of parliament. "It is the parliamentarians of the National Assembly who should take this issue as a priority, just like the introduction of a transitional justice system," the head of government emphasized.
To recall, earlier the need for reforming the EC was also stated by the head of the EU delegation in Armenia, Piotr Switalski, who noted that this process is the path to strengthening democracy in Armenia. The Ambassador regretted that the EC reforms were not adopted by Parliament. "We believe and are confident that there is political will after the elections to reform the EC and make changes that were clearly proposed by the international community. As we understand from the discussions, there is still the will to reform the EC after the elections. This is a way to strengthen democracy in Armenia," the Ambassador noted. It should be noted that the reform of the Electoral Code was one of the electoral promises of the My Step bloc, which envisages the rejection of the rating system of elections.
