ArmInfo. There are discussions currently being held in Armenia on the formats and methods of involving Artsakh (the historical name of Karabakh - Ed. note) in the negotiation process on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said this on February 12 from the rostrum of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
According to him, these formats and methods of Artsakh's involvement in the negotiation process will be discussed with international partners.
Nikol Pashinyan stressed that the opinion and position of the people of Artsakh will be decisive in determining their fate. The RA authorities cannot speak on behalf of the Karabakh authorities, whose people did not elect either the parliament or formed the government of Armenia. "I can speak on behalf of Armenia and its people, but I cannot on behalf of Artsakh, because I have no status, neither of the President, nor the Prime Minister of the Republic. Nevertheless, Armenia will continue to act as a guarantor of the security of the people of Karabakh, "the RA Prime Minister stated.
In this regard, the head of government believes, it is important that Artsakh be involved in the negotiation process. Azerbaijan's statements about its intention to involve the Azerbaijani community of Karabakh in the negotiation process are devoid of common sense. "Representatives of this community elected both the President and the Parliament of Azerbaijan, and if they are involved in the negotiation process, then who will the authorities of the neighboring state represent?" - Nikol Pashinyan wondered, adding that by participating in the electoral processes, the Azerbaijani community of Azerbaijan gave the go-ahead to conduct negotiations on their behalf.
"In any case, there are all the prerequisites for involving Artsakh in the negotiation process. Now there are discussions on the forms and methods of this involvement, which will be discussed with our international partners," the head of the Armenian government stressed.
