ArmInfo. On February 8, Armenian Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan met with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu as part of his working visit to Moscow.
According to the RA Ministry of Defense, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation congratulated Davit Tonoyan on taking office and stressed that Armenia is a reliable ally of Russia and an important partner in the South Caucasus. Shoigu also thanked Tonoyan for the humanitarian aid provided to Armenia by Syria, noting that Armenia was the first to respond to the call of the Russian Federation for rendering assistance to the civilian population of this country.
In turn, Tonoyan thanked the Russian side for cooperation in sending the mission to Syria. Tonoyan noted that the actions of Russia in Syria contribute to post-war reconstruction and noted the importance of Armenia's participation in rendering humanitarian aid. "Our assistance is important to the Syrian people, of which the Armenian community is a part," Tonoyan said.
During the meeting, the heads of the Ministries of Defense of Armenia and Russia discussed a wide range of issues of military and military-technical cooperation, including those related to the replenishment of the RA Armed Forces with the latest technology.
The sides also discussed joint plans to increase combat readiness, stressing that the Armenian-Russian military and military-technical cooperation is at a high level. The ministers expressed confidence that strategic allied relations would continue to develop.
