ArmInfo. Until 2023, all curricula will be revised, and we will have a completely new list of school subjects. Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan stated this to journalists on January 31 after a government meeting.
The minister recalled that from the high rostrum of the Armenian parliament, he spoke of plans to revise all school disciplines. "There are numerous complaints about overloading, inconsistency of programs, the identity of the content of various subjects. In the same subjects the History of the Armenian Church, the History of the Armenian people, local history, military affairs, even in the textbook on singing there are repetitions associated with all these subjects. "We should make it easier, most parents complain that their children are overburdened, "he said. At the same time, he noted that these changes will be an additional financial burden for the state. "Tomorrow we will have a discussion related specifically to specific textbooks, with the same congestion. Perhaps the textbooks will become two-volume. The first volume is for the first half of the year, and the second is for the second," he explained.
On the question of whether chess will be removed from the school curriculum (which is now being taught in grades 2-4), the minister noted that there were also complaints from parents on this subject. "Discussions will be held in all subjects. Programs in all subjects will be changed," he said. Regarding the professional qualities of teachers, Arayik Harutyunyan said that mechanisms would be created and, over time, "the professionals will remain in school." it has been decided that training curriculum revision teams will be established through various programs in conjunction with the World Bank and the European Union.
