Earlier, Spokeswoman for the EU Foreign Service Maja Kocijancic stated that the European Union expects the Armenian government to properly investigate the death of the deputy chairman of the "Armenian Eagles: United Armenia" public organization, coordinator of the Haynews.am news website, Mher Yeghiazaryan, who died in prison after a hunger strike.
To note, on January 26, it became known that Mher Yeghiazaryan, who had been on a hunger strike for 44 days, died in the Nubarashen prison. Around 6:15 pm, the deterioration of 51-year-old Yeghiazaryan health condition was recorded. The ambulance team called up stated the man's biological death. Investigation is underway, expertise has been appointed. In connection with this, the Investigation Committee of Armenia made an explanation, noting that the cause of death of Yeghiazaryan, who was under investigation, was myocardial heart attack. To recall, in the framework of the criminal case initiated in December 2018 in Investigation Department of the National Security Service of Armenia, Yeghiazaryan was charged under paragraph 2 of part 2 of article 178 (Fraud), paragraph 1 of part 3 of article 178, paragraph 1 of part 3 of article 38-34-312 (giving a bribe) and part 2 of article 38-34-312 Criminal Code of Armenia. According to the National Security Service, from February 2014 to October 2018, Mher Yeghiazaryan, personally or through other persons, abusing the trust of a number of citizens, including military personnel, under the pretext of employment or promotion, lured amounts in the amount of 180 thousand drams to 10 thousand dollars -4 million 775 thousand drams in total. Arrest was chosen as a measure of restraint against him.
