ArmInfo. The high crime rate in Armenia has deep roots inherited from previous years, and the current authorities will need enough time to reduce this impact on the criminal situation in the country.
This was announced at a press conference by the head of the Armenian Police Armen Ghukasyan.<In 2018, the total number of registered crimes in Armenia increased by 11% or by 2.267 cases (2017 - 20.284, 2018 - 22.551). As for corruption crimes, if in 2017 there were 634 cases, in 2018 their number increased about 2.5 times, reaching 1.353. Most of the crimes are classified as hidden crimes, and their growth in itself is a positive result, since their identification is a rather complicated process for law enforcement agencies, and it requires proper implementation of operational- search measures, "he noted.
Ghukasyan recalled that as a result of the fight against corruption, the police revealed damage caused to the state, the size of 5.7 billion drams by organizations and individuals. In 2017, this figure was only 735 million drams.Ghukasyan is convinced that over the past year, due to a change in the internal political situation in the country, citizens' confidence in police activities has increased, and the latter do not refrain from going to the police. <If in 2017, 32,321 reports of alleged crimes were received by the RA police, in 2018 their number increased by 9,145 or 28.3%, reaching 41,466.
For certain types of crimes, the effectiveness of solving crimes is as follows: murder 74%, banditry 66%, car theft cases 93%, attempted murder 74%, deliberate murder cases 87%, rape or attempted rape - 72%, traffic offenses - 88%, including deaths - 73%, hooliganism - 59%, robbery - 57%, theft - 39 %, including housing, 20%, 66% fraud, misappropriation or embezzlement, 61%, etc., "stated the Chief of Police of Armenia, commenting that the indicators are not particularly satisfactory, in particular, in the work on identifying thefts, including from apartments, but in all other cases, the rates are quite high.He also stressed that in 2018 the minimum homicide rate for the last 40 years was registered, 35 cases, while in 2017 it was 49 cases, in 2016 -66, in 2015- 52, in 2014-53, 2013- 48, however, the highest rates were recorded from 1989 to 1995, in 1992 there were about 305 murders.
