ArmInfo. All those approaches and principles related to the settlement of the Karabakh issue, which Levon Ter-Petrosyan once voiced are heard today from the mouth of the new government of Armenia. The press secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, stated this at a press conference on January 29.
He noted that today they often talk about concessions from the Armenian side, while the Armenian side won twice. "There is very little talk about the right of peoples to self-determination, while during the reign of Vazgen Sargsyan, Robert Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan, the Armenian side has repeatedly stated that the concessions should be bilateral, moreover, the importance of the international principle of law people to self-determination ", - said the politician.
Sharmazanov also noted that the Azerbaijani side is now talking about the year 2019 as a turning point, while the Armenian side is mostly silent. Also, the press secretary of the RPA noted that in his statements often the prime minister refers not to the statements of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, but to the words of Aliyev. "This is an extremely wrong approach. There are a number of people with whom one could discuss the Karabakh conflict, for example, instead of putting Robert Kocharian in prison, he should talk about it," the RPA spokesman stressed.
Sharmazanov also touched upon the meeting between Aliyev and Pashinyan, which was held in Dushanbe: "In Dushanbe, the Armenian Prime Minister ran straight into Aliyev's trap," the politician emphasized.
A spokesman of RPA also noted that "today we are asking for peace from Azerbaijan, and this can lead to a catastrophe". "We are not against peace. We also wanted to achieve peace through mutual concessions, but we were always against the formula of" territory for peace ". The issue is how much this world should be achieved. After all, the problem is not in us, but in Baku "Azerbaijan is still not ready to recognize the full realization of the right of the people of Karabakh to self-determination. Therefore, Yerevan's policy should be aimed at protecting the results of the Karabakh referendum of 1991," the politician emphasized.
Also, the RPA press secretary noted that during the RPA rule, five statements of the co-chairs were published, which noted the people's right to self-determination. Recently, there has not been a single statement of intermediaries in which this principle is mentioned.
"Pashinyan meets with Aliyev in Davos, speaks with him for an hour and a half and as a result it turns out that they did not talk about anything concrete. How is this possible? What did they discuss then? It is extremely strange that abstract statements are made about the just resolving the conflict, but in fact Baku and Stepanakert see justice differently. It is also extremely strange that the provisions of the Vienna, St. Petersburg, and Geneva agreements came out of circulation, "Sharmazanov added, saying that probably on the Karabakh issue as no secret negotiations. In conclusion, the RPA press secretary also noted that the reaction of the Prime Minister to the words of Ambassador Richard Mills that the surrender of the territories was necessary was very peculiar. "Pashinyan said that these are the words of the outgoing ambassador, and the statement by the US National Security Advisor to the President, John Bolton, that we should abandon our historical patterns, did not follow the reaction at all. Foreign policy should not be viewed through our fingers," concluded Sharmazanov.
To note, the last meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev took place on January 22 in Davos. As Pashinyan told later, they discussed the history of the negotiation process, the possibilities of creating conditions for settlement, the existing obstacles, etc. The prime minister also noted that no specifics were discussed during the meeting.
