ArmInfo. The situation around the elections of the CSTO Secretary General will be resolved on the sidelines of the organization. President of the Scientific Society of Caucasus Studies, the chief researcher of the IMEMO RAN, Alexander Krylov, expressed such an opinion during the Yerevan-Moscow teleconference.
According to him, if Armenia succeeds in introducing amendments to the CSTO Charter, providing for clarification of procedures for early withdrawal of the Secretary General by the presiding country and the procedure for selecting a new head of the organization, it is quite possible that on this basis the republic will continue to head the organization until the end of the stipulated time. "This is the most likely option," the expert assured.
Another possible scenario for the development of the situation, he called the continuation of the chairmanship in the organization as acting Secretary General Valery Semerikov. He considered the election of a representative of Belarus to be less likely, as Alexander Lukashenko insists, since Armenia, in this case, is likely to put a veto.
