ArmInfo.In 2018, 63 servicemen died in the Armed Forces of Armenia and the Artsakh Defense Army: 27 of them conscripts, 23 contract soldiers, 2 warrant officers and 11 officers.
According to the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office, 38 deaths were related to military service, 25 in circumstances not related to the performance of service.
In particular, 7 were killed by the enemy, 11 died as a result of suicide or incitement to suicide, 2 - as a result of a violation of the rules for handling weapons, 3 from diseases, 1 was hit by a mine, 1 was killed, 3 were killed in an accident, 6 in an traffic accident, associated with the service, 2 - as a result of violation of the rules of combat service, 2 - as a result of violation of the rules of flights or preparation for them.
Of the 25 soldiers who died in circumstances not related to the service, 11 soldiers died in road accidents, not related to service, 10 from diseases, 4 - as a result of an accident.
"To note for comparison, that in 2017, 76 cases of deaths of military personnel was recorded in the armed forces of Armenia and Artsakh. Of these, 56 under circumstances related to service, 20 were unrelated to it. A comparative analysis shows that the deaths of the military compared to last year reduced by 12 or 17%'', statement reads. It is noted that the deaths of servicemen related to the performance of service reduced significantly-by 18 cases or by 32%.
However, the Prosecutor General's Office notes with regret that in comparison with 2017, the number of non-service-related deaths increased by 20%. In 2017, 56 deaths of soldiers related to service were recorded for the following reasons: 23 killed by the enemy, 10 committed suicide, 4 as a result of a violation of the rules for handling weapons, 4 from diseases, 4 were blown up by a mine, 3 were killed, 4 as a result of an accident, 4 as a result of a road accident. Of the 20 of non-service deaths: 1 soldier killed, 5 killed in traffic accidents, 12 from diseases, 2 as a result of an accident.
To note in 2018 in comparison with 2017, the number of people killed as a result of the enemy's violation of the ceasefire regime reduced more than 3-fold.
